Choices Choosing good over evil is an easy call. I don’t have to agonize over whether to remain faithful to my wife. God’s word makes that one clear. What do you do when you’re faced with a choice between two goo things, and the choice is yours? A student has to decide between two schools. One that is near home or another one, that has a better program for her major, but is in another state. She has always valued the time she’s spends with her folks, but she has her career to think of. What does she do? A mother wants her child in Christian School, but to pay for it, she will have to work outside the home. She thinks her child will benefit from the Christian education, but also thinks it is valuable for her to be a stay-at-home mom. What does she do? A pastor wants to make a visit, but his sermon requires a little extra work that week. He doesn’t want to neglect his flock, so he visits. But on the other hand, he doesn’t want to neglect his flock so he tries to have a well prepared sermon each week. What does he do? A family has to decide whether to follow their loved one’s advanced directives and turn off the life support system. What do they do? A son wants to forgive his father, but also wants to remain loyal to his mother who has left her abusive husband. What does he do? When life isn’t cut and dry and our decisions are between two right things, what do we do? That’s easy. We grow. We grow when we struggle with decisions between right and right. They force us to look outward, and with humility depend upon our friends and spiritual counselors for advise. They also force us to look inward to seek the direction of the Holy Spirit and to find God’s peace. The more difficult the choice, the greater potential we have for growth. Jim L. A Threshing Floor

A Threshing Floor In the ancient world, farmers used threshing floors to separate grain from its inedible husk (chaff) by beating it with a flail or walking animals on it—sometimes while towing a threshing sledge. Sledges were fitted with flint teeth to dehusk the grain more quickly. Other workers would turn the grain over so that it would be evenly threshed by the sledge.
