No Cross, No Power Key Verse: Mark 8:35 I. Jesus could have avoided the cross but He did not. A. He had the power to avoid it. 1. He explicitly stated so in John 10:18: “No man taketh it [my life] from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.…” 2. If you had this kind of power would you ever voluntarily die? B. If He had avoided it, He would not have realized the very purpose of His incarnation. 1. “The Word … was made flesh” (John 1:14). Why?
