Hazor
In the 2nd millennium BCE, Hazor was the only real cosmopolitan city of Palestine; it had many international connections. The city consisted of an upper town (sites A, B and G) of 12 ha, and a lower town (sites C, E, F, D, K and H) of 70 ha. Its ideal location at the most important north-south route of the Levant was part of the reason for its wealth. In the monarchic period, the population was again limited to the upper town. The city was now a bulwark against the Aramaeans who settled east of the Huleh Valley.
