The Tabernacle and its Furnishing
The Tabernacle and Its Furniture. The materials used (Ex 25:1–7; Ex 35:5–9) included items ranging from precious to common materials. An important principle was established, namely, anything offered to the Lord must be voluntary. The three metals are mentioned in descending order of importance, gold alone being employed in the principal sanctuary furnishings. The total amount of metals used was approximately one ton of gold, three of copper, and four of silver (Ex 38:24–31). The relatively large amount of silver came from the offering (Ex 30:11–16), which augmented the silver and gold already given by the Egyptians (Ex 12:15). The fine-twined linen was made from high-grade flax.
