The KJV Standard Lesson Commentary, Sunday School Lesson Outline

December 14 Lesson 2 MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE
DEVOTIONAL READING: 1 Kings 8:54–62 BACKGROUND SCRIPTURE: Psalm 95

PSALM 95:1–7A
1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also.
5 The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.
6 O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

December 7 Lesson 1 WORSHIP CHRIST’S MAJESTY
DEVOTIONAL READING: 1 Timothy 1:12–17 BACKGROUND SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 1

HEBREWS 1:1–9
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, …

Lesson based on International Sunday School Lesson

Lesson for December 7, 2014 Worship Christ’s Majesty (Hebrews 1) This treatment of the International Sunday School Lesson is written by Sam E. Stone, former editor of CHRISTIAN STANDARD. It is published in the November 30 issue of The Lookout magazine, and is also available online at www.lookoutmag.com. ______ By Sam E. Stone  The letter to the Hebrews does not tell us the name of its author. For years Paul was assumed to have written it. Others think Barnabas or Apollos did. Though we cannot be certain of the author, the book was clearly accepted by the early church as part of the Holy Spirit-inspired canon of Scripture. Most Bible students believe it was written before the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem in AD 70, since the temple offerings and activities are mentioned throughout the book. The letter was written to Jewish converts to Christianity, reminding them that Jesus is God’s final revelation and their only hope. This is a needed message for us as well.
