The Greek Word for "Send"
Under the influence of Jewish teaching about sending, John develops this tradition (1 John 4:9, 10, 14; John 3:16f.) into the basis for christological legitimation (5:36, 38; 6:29, 57; 7:29; 10:36; 11:42; 17:3, 8, 18): ἀποστέλλω denotes commissioning and authorization from God. The sending discloses the unique manner in which the Son is bound to the Father; a believing acknowledgment of the phrase “that you have sent me” therefore constitutes the goal and content of confession (11:42; 17:3, 8, 21, 23, 25). Along with ἀποστέλλω there also appears the formula ὁ πέμψας με πατήρ (→ πέμπω).
