Altar near Zorah

‎Near Zora in the Shephelah, a peculiar stone was discovered that had on top a structure like a ladder. It was quickly connected to the altar of Manoah (Judg 13:19–20). However, a new analysis of the stone made clear that it probably was only cut in such way in the Byzantine period, and was presumably used for pressing fresh olive oil.

A Threshing Floor

A Threshing Floor In the ancient world, farmers used threshing floors to separate grain from its inedible husk (chaff) by beating it with a flail or walking animals on it—sometimes while towing a threshing sledge. Sledges were fitted with flint teeth to dehusk the grain more quickly. Other workers would turn the grain over so that it would be evenly threshed by the sledge.
