The Race
By: Reverend Lynwood F. Mundy
11 I returned iand saw under the
sun that—
The race is not to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
Nor bread to the wise,
Nor riches to men of understanding,
Nor favor to men of skill;
But time and jchance happen to
them all.
12 For kman also does not know
his time:
Like fish taken in a cruel net,
Like birds caught in a snare,
So the sons of men are lsnared in an evil time,
When it falls suddenly upon them. (Ecclesiastes 9:11-12,
NKJV)
The Scripture of Ecclesiastes
9:11-12 brings two forms of winners to mind in this world of today:
- A reminder of the Roman soldier that won his race and was given a
crown of olive branches to signify his crowning achievement of winning his
race under enduring circumstances of: hills, dusty roads, rocks and enduring
all types of weather conditions. Although his glorying of winning, partying,
dancing, drinking of wine and other celebrations were short lived, he continued
to serve Roman gods which were many. Yet when he dies his soul is lost to
unquenchable fire of torment in Sheol signifying the first death.
- To the Christian soldier, there is another race, one which is more
gratifying than that of the Roman soldier! He or she is running a race to finish
their soul salvation in Christ Jesus. When the Judge Jesus opens the Lambs
Book of Life, and finds his or her name written therein to reach heavens
pearly, there, each Christian found worthy of fining his or her race will enter
into God’s kingdom of heaven.

race you must run to enter His kingdom of heaven.
