Christ Answers Thomas
By: Shirley
Thomas
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not
know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the
Father except through Me.
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from
now on you know Him and have seen Him (John 14:5-7; NKJV).”
Thomas one of the twelve Aramaic-speaking disciples, chosen by
Jesus to be one of his twelve disciples who saw
the Incarnate of God, Son
of God, Son of Man, King of kings, Rabbi (Teacher), Healer and Resurrector of the
Dead would ask what some would think preposterous, silly, outrageous, absurd,
ludicrous, unbelievable, and laughable to ask Jesus,
“Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way? (v. 5)”
Jesus as only he, the Son of God,
could respond to Thomas’ question in a true spiritual way.
First, Jesus announces who he is by Yahweh’s name
to Moses, “I Am Who I Am”, but giving
humility to his Father,
his response is, “I
am”
Secondly, Jesus gives Thomas
three List-Items:
1. “the
way”, Read Jn. 10:9; Eph. 2:18.
2. “the
truth” Read Jn. 1:14, 17; 8:32; 18:37.
3. “and
the life.” Read Jn. 11:25.
Jesus further gives Thomas a Denial: “No
one comes to the Father (1 Tim. 2:5)” with a Concession: “except
through Me (John 10:7–9; Acts 4:12).”
Jesus then concludes his response to Thomas (v. 7), by giving him a Background-Conclusion: “If you had known Me, you would have known with his Experience: “My Father
also;” and a Prediction: “from now on you
know Him”, letting Thomas know from his own Experience: “and have seen Him (Read John 8:19).”
Access your self and see if you are walking with Jesus, and the Father spiritually.
Are you doubting your salvation? If so, don’t be like Thomas who did not
believe the other ten disciples that Jesus was resurrected
and alive. Think on God’s grace and mercy on
your life, and return to Him; He never left you, you left Him.
