Words Not Heard By Human EarExcerpt Both by day and by night, God’s creation is speaking (v. 2), but this speech is not heard with the human ear. Verse 3 should read, “There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard” (NIV). We hear the voice of God in creation by seeing His wisdom and power. Certainly so complex an entity as ouruniverse (and the universes beyond our own universe) demands a Creator and Sustainer. A Merciful and Faithful High PriestExcerpt Whatever their needs or trials, their Captain is adequate to help them since He ministers to Abraham’s descendants, not angels. The expression “Abraham’s descendants” (lit., “Abraham’s seed”) may point to the Jewishness of the writer’s audience, but even Gentile Christians could claim to be the “seed of Abraham” in a spiritual sense (Gal. 3:29). The help which the Captain gives to these His followers is again predicated on the fact that He was made like His brothers in every way (Heb. 2:17), that is, both in terms of becoming incarnate and by virtue of suffering. Here for the first time the writer introduced the thought of His priesthood, which he elaborated on later. Although we’ve been made new, we haven’t been made perfect, and sometimes it shows. People within our church communities might have one perception of us, but others may have experienced another side—one that can make us feel shameful about our witness (or lack thereof). While Paul spoke to Titus about relationships within the Cretan community, he also emphasized that believers needed to think about how their actions affected those outside the community. They needed to obey authority (Titus 3:1) and show perfect courtesy to all people (Titus 3:3). Although the Cretans had been told this before, Paul wanted Titus to remind them. He would later offer another reminder as well (Titus 3:14). We might be tempted to cultivate the impression that we’re better than we really are. But we have a responsibility to interact with all people in a way that reflects …

Expect unexpected things, above all that we ask or think. Each time you intercede, be quiet first and worship God in His glory.
