Day 2 - Monday - Reflect & Pray -- ODB

Reflect & Pray How has God helped you through someone else’s secret giving? Who can you help with an anonymous gift today? Loving God, please bless me with opportunities to give as selflessly and sacrificially as You have given to me.   Read  Compassion: Learning to Love Like Jesus  at  DiscoverySeries.org/Q0208 .

Day 2 - Monday - Today's Scripture & Insight - ODB

Today's Scripture Matthew 6:1–4   ( NIV ) Insight Having dealt with the burdensome teachings of the Pharisees ( Matthew 5:21–48 ), Jesus now deals with their hypocritical piety. He discusses three acts of piety common in all religions meticulously observed by every devout Jew—almsgiving, prayer, and fasting (6:1–18). Almsgiving, or giving to the poor, was commanded in the Law ( Deuteronomy 15:7–11 ). And the book of Proverbs says that those who help the poor are blessed ( Proverbs 14:21 ;  19:17 ). However, Jesus warns not to use this duty as a platform to earn human praise ( Matthew 6:1–2 ). God isn’t pleased with a showcased or theatrical display of pride and self-glorification. Giving should be done “in secret”—only witnessed by God. Then God, “who sees what is done in secret,” will reward us (v. 4). By:  K. T. Sim

Day 2 - Monday - Today's Scripture Lesson - NKJV, Logos

By: Rev. Lynwood F. Mundy Matthew 6:1-4 Charitable Deeds 6:1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven.  2 Therefore, ( Rom. 12:8 )   when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.   3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,   4 that your charitable deed may be secret, and your Father who sees in secret  (   Luke 14:12–14 )  will Himself reward you  ( N U omits  openly )   openly.     The New King James Version . Day 2 - Monday - Daily Devotions - Logos

May 31: Fighting Loneliness 1 Chronicles 28:1–29:2; 2 Timothy 4:9–22 ; Psalm 90:1–17 Loneliness is one of the most disheartening feelings a person can know. Being alone in a time of pain is even worse. Several recent surveys suggest that lonely people—especially teenagers—subtly reach out through their social networks, desperately looking for someone who cares. In a world where anyone can get attention online, we’ve moved away from the authentic community. We continue to crave personal interactions—perhaps more so because we have an electronic witness to the interactions of others. We as Christians should see this as an opportunity to reach out to disenfranchised, lonely people and show the love of Christ to others. Paul’s second letter to Timothy illustrates how feelings of loneliness are amplified by pain. He makes one of the most candid statements in the Bible: “At my first defense, no one came to my aid, but they all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. But the Lo

Day 1 - Lord's Day - Sunday - International KJV Sunday school Lesson for Teacher's and Student's

June 6 Lesson  1 ( KJV ) Freed from Worry Devotional Reading:   Ezekiel 34:11–16 Background  Scripture :   Matthew 6:19–34 Matthew 6:25–34 25  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27  Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28  And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29  And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30  Wherefore, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31  Therefore take no tho
