City names on Shoshenq's List
The pharaoh Shoshenq or Shishaq (945–924 BCE) led a military campaign to Palestine in order to extend the Egyptian sphere of influence in this region. The Great Temple of Karnack shows the cartouches with the names of the conquered cities and places passed through in this campaign carved into depictions of bound Syrian captives.
