WHERE THE ACTION TAKES PLACE

Mark’s Gospel traces Jesus’ ministry in Galilee and leads us to its climax in Judea. The Bible tells us Peter’s fishing business was in Galilee, along the shore of its famous sea. One of the most fascinating of recent archaeological explorations indicates that a structure in Capernaum long identified as “Peter’s House” is actually erected on the ruins of a large home that was possibly occupied by the fisherman disciple!

A Threshing Floor In the ancient world, farmers used threshing floors to separate grain from its inedible husk (chaff) by beating it with a flail or walking animals on it—sometimes while towing a threshing sledge. Sledges were fitted with flint teeth to dehusk the grain more quickly. Other workers would turn the grain over so that it would be evenly threshed by the sledge.
