Deportation of idols
When a city was conquered, usually its idols were also led away and placed in the temple of one’s own god. Thus the power of the foreign deity was acknowledged, but at the same time it was put beneath the power of one’s own god. This relief comes from the palace of Tiglat-Pilesers III (745–727 BCE) in Nimrud.
