Horse Mint, Early Stage of Bloom

Horse Mint, Early Stage of Bloom

‎Horse mint (Mentha longifolia) grows in a wide variety of climatic conditions in temperate and subtropical regions from Europe through much of non-tropical Africa to western China. Though this photograph is from an Austrian forest, the same basic plant with only minimal subspecies variation grows both wild and cultivated in most Bible lands. It was one of the main mint species used for food and medicine in first-century Palestine. The plant thrives in full sunlight or light shade and propagates in many soil types.
