A Widow’s Son is Raised
Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him and a large crowd.
And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.
When the Lord saw her, He had (Lam. 3:32; John 11:35; [Heb. 4:15]) compassion on her and said to her, (Luke 8:52) “Do not weep.”
Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, (Mark 5:41; Luke 8:54; John 11:43; Acts 9:40; [Rom. 4:17]) arise.”
So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He (1 Kin. 17:23; 2 Kin. 4:36) presented him to his mother.
(Luke 1:65) Then fear (seized them all) came upon all, and they (Luke 5:26) glorified God, saying, (Luke 24:19; John 4:19; 6:14; 9:17) “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, (Luke 1:68) “God has visited His people.”
