Babel, Tower of

Babel, Tower of Excerpt ‎The “Tower of Babel” was an ancient construction called a ziggurat—a step-pyramid building with a shrine at the top reserved for a divine being. The people built this construction in the plain of Shinar to make a great name for themselves and to avoid being scattered over the face of the earth ( Gen 11:4 ). God , however, disapproved of their plans and judged the people by confusing their language in order to scatter them ( Gen 11:6–8 ). The story explains the origin of languages and the nations, especially Babylon ( Gen 11:9 ). Cisneros, Johnny. “Tower of Babel.” Ed. John D. Barry et al.
