Pergamum
Pergamum At the turn of the era, Pergamum was the academic and artistic center of the western part of Asia Minor. Parchment is named after this city that produced it, whereby animal skin is stretched, scraped, and dried under tension, creating this especially valuable writing material. The famous Great Altar of Pergamum that today can be visited in the Pergamum Museum in Berlin was regarded as one of the most splendid constructions in antiquity. The picture shows Pergamum’s Hellenistic theater.
