The Last Supper Gathered now with the twelve at table around Him , Jesus was “troubled in spirit.” Perhaps the human side of the man desired to have for that one night at least, only friends about Him . Hence, suddenly, He told the twelve that one of them was about to betray Him ; and when each, including Judas, protested that the thing was impossible, Jesus obscurely hinted at the traitor, so that only Judas caught the sense. Knowing he was detected, yet not knowing why he was spared and permitted to complete his treachery, Judas slunk forth from the room at the Master’s command .
