Monday - Verse of the Day - ODB

Malachi 3:3 ( Is. 1:25; Dan. 12:10; Zech. 13:9 )  He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And ( Or  refine )   purge them as gold and silver, That they may  [ 1 Pet. 2:5 ]  offer to the Lord An offering in righteousness. The New King James Version . Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982. Print.

Monday - Today's Scripture / Insight - ODB

Today's Scripture Malachi 1:8–14 (NIV) Insight  Malachi confronted the people of Israel for their lack of respect and honor for God. This was demonstrated by their disregard for the purity of their sacrifices. They brought sacrifices that were blind, lame, and sick ( 1:8 ). In contrast, God required that the sacrifices brought to Him be without defect (see   Leviticus 1:3 ,   10 ;   3:1 ,   6 ;   4:3 ,   23 ,   28 ,   32 ). God gave good gifts to the Israelites, and He expected they’d offer good gifts to Him in return. Offering a defective sacrifice was a sign of disrespect; they were performing a ritual rather than honoring God from the heart.

Monday - Today's Scripture Lesson - NKJV, Logos

By: Rev. Lynwood F. Mundy Malachi 1:8-14   And ( Lev. 22:22; Deut. 15:19–23 )  when you offer the blind as a sacrifice, Is it not evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, Is it not evil? Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he   [ Job 42:8 ]  accept ( Lit.  lift up your face )   you favorably?” Says the Lord of hosts. 9 “But now entreat God’s favor, That He may be gracious to us. ( Hos. 13:9 )  While this is being done by your hands, Will He accept you, favorably?” Says the Lord of hosts. 10 “Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, ( 1 Cor. 9:13 )  So that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you,” Says the Lord of hosts, ( Is. 1:11 )   “Nor will I accept an offering from your hands. 11 For ( Is. 59:19 )  from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great  ( Is. 60:3, 5 )  among the Gentiles; ( 1 Tim. 2:8 )  In every place ( Rev. 8:3 )  incense shal

Monday - Fresh Start Devotions - Logos

Pride During the 2000–01 Football Season, Tampa Bay wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson made headlines before a game with his former team, the New York Jets. When Keyshawn was traded, his starting place in the New York lineup was given to the smaller and slower Wayne Chrebet. Johnson contrasted himself with his former teammate in the October 2, 2000 edition of Sports Illustrated by saying, “You’re trying to compare a flashlight to a star. Flashlights only last so long. A star is in the sky forever.” Yet when the two teams met on the field, the flashlight shone brighter. The star, Keyshawn Johnson, caught only one pass for minimal yardage, while the flashlight, Wayne Chrebet, caught the game-winning pass with fifty-two seconds left in regulation. Perhaps Johnson’s comments motivated Chrebet to reach new heights in his game. They certainly didn’t do anything for Johnson. Johnson isn’t the first athlete to learn that his field's performance always gets the last word. Don’t get me wrong

November 30: Do Not Turn to Folly 2 Kings 23:28–25:30; Ephesians 6:1–24 ; Proverbs 9:13–18 I have a problem with criticism. Being one of the youngest in a large, opinionated family, I quickly learned how to stand up for myself and get my way as a young child. I learned to deflect teasing. I also learned I had a knack for ignoring reprimands—punishment free (there are certain, inalienable rights that shouldn’t be bestowed on the youngest). The louder I projected my voice, the better; the more stubborn my stance, the more respect I earned. I wish I could say it was a phase that I quickly grew out of. When we’re challenged by others, we often interpret the wisdom offered as criticism instead. We defensively deflect feedback like beams of light, hoping they’ll land in their rightful place (our neighbor’s darkness, and not our own). This type of reaction can become second nature to us. Even messages in the church are soon meant for others: “I wish [insert person who is currently annoyi

Lord's Day - Sunday - Reflect & Pray - ODB

Reflect & Pray What makes you long for God to make what is bittersweet again? While you wait for Jesus’ return, what are some things you can do to make others’ bitter experience sweet again? God, as I witness and experience so much pain, suffering, ruin, and death, sometimes it’s difficult to believe You’ll make what is bittersweet again. Help me to put my hope in You, the One who’s promised to give me beauty for ashes and joy for mourning.

Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? 7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? 8 If ye fulfill the royal law according
