God’s Spirit Shall Not Abide in Man Forever Excerpt In  Genesis 6:3  a question arises. Evil mortals were striving with God, yet at the same time their lives were sustained by God alone. Why did God allow such enemies to continue existing? In answer, note that the meaning of the name  Israel  is “the one who strives with God.” Even Israel (Jacob) and the Israelites, God’s chosen people, often questioned God’s will. If God destroyed all those who resisted his will, all people would soon be destroyed as they were in the flood.
