"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them." - Mark Twain Persons that do not want to be educated and learn how to read, is like a fish in water without fins. Reading provides a person to become self-intellectual. A Christian that does not read his or her Bible cannot say that they are close to God. Everyday reading of ones Bible will make a Christian KNOW God in an intimate way; Everyday reading of ones Bible will also make a Christian strive to LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY, and LOVE his or her neighbor. - Rev. Lynwood F. Mundy
November 12 I WILL PRAISE HIM! Margaret J. Harris, 19th century To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father—to Him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:5b–6) An attitude of happiness in life is a matter of our will. Abraham Lincoln once stated that “most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” Closely related to a Christian’s happiness is the determination to live a life of praise to God. The goal of every believer should be the overflowing of praise, regardless of the circumstances. Knowing God in Christ is the most compelling reason to have such a life. Each day is a new opportunity for offering a praise sacrifice to God. Instead of dwelling on the negatives of our lives, we should seek fresh reasons daily for praising our Lord. Praise is our highest spiritual exercise. There is more said in the Scriptures about our praise life than even our times...
God’s Anointed “So Miriam was shut up outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until Miriam was received again.” Numbers 12:15 NASB For an entire week the children of Israel stood still. They made no progress in their journey. They didn’t break down their tents and they didn’t set them up. Nobody moved. It wasn’t that they had arrived where they wanted it be, it was they couldn’t move because of the disobedience of a couple of its people. Aaron was Moses’ right hand man; Miriam was his sister. With Moses out of earshot, they began trashing him because they didn’t approve of his wife—she was a Cushite, and they didn’t like her. I suppose it is a sister’s prerogative not to like her sister-in-law, I mean Miriam wouldn’t be the first person to disapprove of a brother’s choice in a bride. But Miriam and Aaron went too far, they asked a couple of questions they shouldn’t have asked, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us a...
November 11 SING PRAISE TO GOD WHO REIGNS ABOVE Johann J. Schutz, 1640–1690 Translated by Frances E. Cox, 1812–1897 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. (Psalm 97:1) Following the Protestant Reformation, which was climaxed by Martin Luther’s posting of the 95 theses at the Cathedral of Wittenberg in 1517, Lutheranism became the dominant religious force in Germany and throughout much of Europe. In the 17th century, there was an important renewal movement within the Lutheran Church known as Pietism. The leader of this spiritual movement was a Lutheran pastor in Frankfort, Germany, Philip J. Spener (1635–1705). Mainly through small cell prayer and Bible study groups, he sought to influence nominal church people who had become accustomed to the dead orthodoxy that had overtaken the church. Spener taught them the meaning of inner personal faith in Christ and the demands that such faith makes upon the believer for holy Christian living. One of the...
Alone I love the solitude of a Trout stream or a good book, and every now and then, when life gets hectic, I’ll say, “I just wish everyone will leave me alone.” A few years ago I was isolated from people after drinking radioactive iodine as a treatment for papillary cancer. I wasn’t allowed any visitors, not even the doctor, instead, he stood behind a lead screen at the door to talk to me. The first few hours was wonderful, but after that, I needed human contact. Though periods of solitude are a welcome respite from “busyness,” the truth is, I hate being alone. It’s not just me either, something happens to people when they are isolated. Every now and then, a television reporter will put a microphone into the face of a serial killer’s neighbor and ask for a description of the criminal. Inevitably, the same term will surface, “He was a ‘loner,’ ” they’ll say, “He kinda kept to himself.” The FBI describes Eric Rudolph, the suspected bomber of Centennial Olympic Park during the...

Thoughts

"You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you." - James Allen You do not have to be where your thoughts have brought you, for if you have accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will be everyday a child of the Most High God with your thoughts being righteous. However, because we are flesh, our thoughts waver to unrighteous things, so we have the indwelling Holy Spirit to tell our thoughts that it or they are wrong. We then can go to God for repentance through Christ Jesus for forgiveness, never no more to be remembered. Our sin(s) have been forgiven by JHVH. We can go through Christ Jesus who is our Propitiator--go between--Door, Only Way to reach JHVH. With Jesus, every day will be a good day regardless of life's perils. - Rev. Lynwood F. Mundy
November 10 PRAISE HIM! PRAISE HIM! Fanny J. Crosby, 1820–1915 I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. (Psalm 146:2) Christianity is not a theory or speculation, but a life; not a philosophy of life, but a living presence. This realization can turn any gloom into a song. —S. T. Coleridge Praise is our Lord’s most righteous due. It is not an option whether we will offer praise—it is one of God’s commands. Scriptures clearly teach that we are to offer a sacrifice of praise to God continually (Hebrews 13:15, 16). Our daily sacrifice of praise should include joyful songs for who Christ is—“our blessed redeemer.” Then we need to praise God for all of His daily blessings, which are beyond number. We should offer praise even for the trials of life for they are often blessings in disguise. Finally, our sacrifice should include praise for His leading in ways yet to be experienced. This is another of the many favorite gospel hymns wri...
