Tuesday - Reflect & Pray - ODB

Reflect & Pray How can you cultivate an awareness of the reality of the spiritual world? Is God calling you to “put on” some part of the “armor” Paul describes? What might that look like today? Help me to remember, God, to walk and serve by faith and in Your power.

Tuesday - Today's Scripture / Insight - ODB

Today's Scripture Ephesians 6:10–20 ( NIV ) Insight  In Paul’s day, Roman soldiers would carry a large wooden shield covered in leather in battle, wetting the leather to extinguish any fire-tipped arrows fired from the opposing side. In battle, the first row of soldiers would carry their shields in front, while the rows behind would hold their shields above their heads, effectively protecting the unit from nearly all incoming threats. This was called a testudo (or tortoise) formation because it resembled a tortoise shell. In  Ephesians 6:10–20 , Paul subtly inverts this military image to describe believers’ resistance to evil forces. Paul relies on imagery from  Isaiah 59:17 , which describes  God’s  righteousness in restoring His exiled people. The metaphor reveals that the only way for believers to stand firm against evil is through continual reliance on “the Lord and . . . his mighty power” ( Ephesians 6:10 ).

Tuesday - Today's Scripture Lesson - NKJV, Logos

By: Rev. Lynwood F. Mundy Ephesians 6:10-20 The Whole Armor of God 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  11 [ 2 Cor. 6:7 ] Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the ( scheming )   wiles of the devil.  12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against ( Rom. 8:38 )  principalities, against powers, against ( Luke 22:53 )  the rulers of ( NU  this darkness, )   the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places .  13 [ 2 Cor. 10:4 ]  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand ( Eph. 5:16 )  in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand, therefore, ( Is. 11:5; Luke 12:35; 1 Pet. 1:13 )  having girded your waist with truth, ( Is. 59:17; Rom. 13:12; Eph. 6:13; 1 Thess. 5:8 )  having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  15 ( Is....

Tuesday - Fresh Start Devotions - Logos

Grass “Dad, your grass needs mowing; let me do it for you,” Dan said. Dan just wanted to make his Dad’s life more comfortable in the final days of his life, but he wanted more than that; he wanted his father’s affirmation. “No, son, I’ll hire someone to do it; you never did know how to mow a lawn.” Once again, his father’s words cut deep. Dan’s thoughts immediately transported him back to childhood. When he was a small boy, his father took the lawnmower out of the garage and showed him how to check the gas and oil and start the engine. Then the big moment came; he turned the lawnmower over to his son and went into the house to enjoy a glass of Ice Tea. Dan was proud. He was finally big enough to mow the lawn—his Dad trusted him. When he was done, he rolled the mower back into the garage, opened the screen door, and flew into the living room to tell his Dad he was finished. “We’ll let’s see what kind of a yardman you are,” his father said as he walked outside with his son. Be...
