Rock Hyrax

Rock Hyrax

‎The Rock Hyrax or Cape Hyrax (Heterohyrax syriacus) resembles a rat or a beaver, though zoologically it is not related to them, but is nearer to elephants. In the Hebrew Scriptures, it rates among the unclean animals. In addition, it is wrongly counted to the ruminants because of its intensive chewing movement.
‎Lev 11:5; Deut 14:7
