Psalm 8

The Glory of the Lord In Creation

8:title To the Chief Musician. (Heb. Al GittithOn the Instrument of Gath. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, our Lord,

How (Ps. 148:13excellent is Your name in all the earth,

Who have (Ps. 113:4set Your glory above the heavens!

2 (Matt. 21:16; [1 Cor. 1:27]) Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants

You have ( established) ordained strength,

Because of Your enemies,

That You may silence (Ps. 44:16the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I (Ps. 111:2consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

4 (Job 7:17, 18; [Heb. 2:6–8]) What is the man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You [Job 10:12visit (give attention to or care for) him?

5 For You have made him a little lower than (Heb. Elohim, God; LXX, Syr., Tg., Jewish tradition angels) the angels,

And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

6  [Gen. 1:26, 28]You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; [1 Cor. 15:27; Eph. 1:22; Heb. 2:8]You have put all things under his feet,

7 All sheep and oxen—

Even the beasts of the field,

8 The birds of the air,

And the fish of the sea

That pass through the paths of the seas.

9 (Ps. 8:1O Lord, our Lord,

How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
