Psalm 11

Faith in the Lord’s Righteousness

11:title To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 In (Ps. 56:11) the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul,

“Flee as a bird to your mountain”?

2 For look! (Ps. 64:3, 4) The wicked bend their bow,

They make ready their arrow on the string,

That they may shoot (Lit. in darkness) secretly at the upright in heart.

3 (Ps. 82:5; 87:1; 119:152) If the foundations are destroyed,

What can the righteous do?

4 The Lord is in His holy temple,

The Lord’s (Ps. 2:4; [Is. 66:1]; Matt. 5:34; 23:22; [Acts 7:49]; Rev. 4:2) throne is in heaven;

[Ps. 33:18; 34:15, 16] His eyes behold,

His eyelids test the sons of men.

5 The Lord (Gen. 22:1; [James 1:12] tests the righteous,

But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.

6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals;

Fire and brimstone and a burning wind

(1 Sam. 1:4; Ps. 75:8; Ezek. 38:22) Shall be (Their allotted portion or serving) the portion of their cup.

7 For the Lord is righteous,

He (Ps. 33:5; 45:7) loves righteousness;

(Or The upright beholds His countenance) His countenance beholds the upright.
